Comm RAP Oscars Party

Join us on February 24th for a night at the Oscars here in Buckingham at 4:00pm. We encourage all attending to dress up in your swanky best for the event. Food will be served and awards will be given to members of our own community, in addition to the viewing of the Oscars ceremonies that we will be watching during the event. So bring yourself and bring your friends and we’ll see you for a night at the Oscars.

2012-2013 Peer Mentor Application

COMM RAP is looking for 8 Peer Mentors to work with assigned groups of residents in the program for AY 2012-2013. As a Peer Mentor, you will be playing an integral role in support of co-curricular activities and events, helping new students develop study skills, and initiating your own ideas to build a strong community of living and learning in the hall. Decisions will be announced the third week of February, 2012.

Spring 2012 Merit Scholarships

COMM RAP is offering 14 $425 merit scholarships for Spring 2012. They will be awarded on the basis of your academic performance in Fall and your involvement in and contribution to the COMM RAP community. To apply: submit a (one-page) essay of not more than 300 words on some aspect of your emerging aspirations and focus for the future and how it or these have been influenced by your first semester experience in COMM RAP. Please keep in mind that COMM RAP focuses on understanding how communication shapes society and impacts our daily lives. Please submit your essay by Thursday, December 1, 2011 in hardcopy to Josephine Kapatayes or email it to: commrap@colorado.edu. Awards will be announced at the end of January and will be applied to your term bills through the Bursar’s Office.

COMM RAP students and faculty will meet in Kittredge Commons East Dining Hall on Monday, August 22nd from 6:00-7:15pm for an introduction to COMM RAP. The event will give a brief introduction to the COMM RAP program, introduce students to the “Place, Space, and Community” theme informing events for this fall, and give students an opportunity to meet and mingle with professors and students they may not have the chance to meet in class during their first semester at CU Boulder.

Place, Space, and Community: Exploring the Natural and Vernacular Landscapes of Boulder. The concept of living and learning communities highlights the role that space plays in the creation of a community. IN an effort to become better aware of the ways that space and place communicate things about the larger cultures of which we are a part, a series of events have been organized for fall 2011 that draw particular attention to the natural and vernacular landscapes of Boulder, CO. Scheduled on a monthly basis each event is accompanied by food and discussion. Since the majority of incoming students are new to Boulder (or at least new to an identity as a CU Boulder student), focus on the Boulder component of our shared identity has been used to help create community among students and staff. At the end of the semester it’s our hope that students become more aware of the ways that landscape influences opportunities for and ideas about community.
