Peer Mentor Program

COMM RAP Peer Mentor Program

Every year COMM RAP employs 8 friendly residents who are also model students to serve as Peer Mentors. Their job is to enhance the educational experience and academic success of our incoming students through several means. Having successfully navigated their first year or two at CU, they are especially well equipped to give our eager new students the academic and social support necessary to surmount the challenges and make the most of their first year of college. Our Peer Mentors also help foster a sense of community in Buckingham Hall by planning fun events, like our annual Zombie Ball, Living Unplugged Weekend, Spring Fever Luau, Open Mic Nights as well as many movie/dinner nights. Finally, Peer Mentors work closely with faculty members to plan enriching events to compliment specific course subjects that are academic while still being fun and social.

Interested in Becoming a Peer Mentor?

Are you interested in gaining leadership skills and helping maintain a strong community of living and learning in Buckingham Hall? We solicit applications each year beginning in October and will hire up to 8 Peer Mentors (PMs) in early February to work with Resident Advisors (RAs) and assigned groups of residents in COMM RAP. Each PM will be paired with an RA, and they will plan and implement activities as a team. This position is for full-time students who live in Buckingham Hall and who have an interest in the role of communication as it shapes our lives, communities, and broader society. This is a para-professional leadership role and leaders are should expect to work from 8-10 hours per week on their various duties (this varies across the semester). PMs receive a monthly stipend of $300 plus a RAP scholarship that waives the annual RAP fee ($850.00). In addition to the 8-10 hours per week, PMs are also required to work at least 3 additional hours at the front desk each week to interface with students and promote events. These hours are paid for by residential life and are in addition to the $300 monthly stipend.
